Project on capacity building for the water sector successfully finished

Clean water for South Africa!
Initiative of Festo Didactic and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

In 2011, Festo Didactic and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) started an initiative with the aim to qualify staff of water and wastewater treatment plants in South Africa. Therefore, a modular training equipment which covers the whole water cycle addressing the core processes of water and wastewater management has been developed – the EDS® Water Management.
Festo Didactic’s South African partners, the University of Pretoria and the Water Academy in Knysna, carried out the first trainings with the EDS® Water Management and unemployed young people were capacitated to work in the water sector.

During the Water Institute of South Africa’s (WISA) conference in May 2014, the results were presented. All project partners agreed that the project was very successful and will be of help in South Africa and worldwide.
Horst Weinert, Manager of Festo Didactic South Africa, put the facts in a nutshell: "The results of this project are extremely encouraging, both for the local water industry but also for other countries who need to train water professionals to manage and protect their water resources into the future."
